Atherton Residence
The Atherton Residence is a well-crafted architectural investigation. Echoing the concept of Taichi, the design of the house embodies balance and harmony.
The home features three stories: two above ground and one basement level with light courts. A central spiral staircase around which all rooms revolve allows the energy to flow continuously. Visually, the exterior of the house reflects the Taichi philosophy. The ground floor is cladded with textured white limestone tiles, and it transitions to striking black standing seam metal claddings on the second floor. Furthermore, each floor is thoughtfully rotated relative to the others, anchored by the central spiral staircase. |
This rotational design is also mirrored in the yards. Landscape elements follow the same angular patterns, integrating the residence with its natural surroundings and enhancing a serene, harmonious ambiance.
Together, the Yin Yang duality is weaved into the dynamic interplay of opposing forces, yet structured and displayed in a balanced and harmonious way. |
